Kambuzuma Residents Place Faith in Female Candidate

By Lawrence Paganga

Harare – The residents of Kambuzuma, a high-density suburb in Harare believe that giving a female candidate a chance to be a Member of Parliament (MP) would bring them much-needed development.

Kambuzuma residents told Votewatch263 that it was time to vote for 33-year-old Fungai Gumbu because she was born and bred in the constituency and understood the challenges and needs of the suburb. Gumbu is a member of the MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe.

“Fungai understands the challenges that we face in Kambuzuma and from the list of candidates that are contesting, I trust that she is the best candidate for the job,” said Amon Njarava.

Another resident, Rose Pawanda said Gumbu was a proactive politician who was willing to assist other residents of Kambuzuma.

“Even before she chose to contest as an MP, Gumbu was always there to assist the local residents.  That is why I feel that it is time for the people of Kambuzuma to vote for Gumbu because as a woman and mother, she understands our concerns,” said Pawanda.

Gumbu is contesting against two male politicians, Simbarashe Mupandanyama of Zanu PF and Willas Madzimure of the MDC Alliance.

Gumbu promised that if elected she would push for a review of the Urban Councils Act so that it would give councillors the powers to run their councils without interference from the local government minister.

“In most cases, urban councils are failing to develop because the responsible minister would be sabotaging operations at the local councils,” said Gumbu.

She also promised to have a scorecard system in place for Kambuzuma residents to periodically rate her performance as MP.
