Candidate Promises to Improve Zengeza East

By Champion Mhofu

Chitungwiza – Justice Coalition of Zimbabwe’s parliamentary candidate for Zengeza East Constituency, Fortune Tichaona Chikuruwo told VoteWatch263 in a recent interview that he would help develop the area if he won the elections.

Chikuruwo, a Laboratory Technician by profession, said he had ventured into politics with the desire to improve the social well-being of the people in his community. He complained that the previous Members of Parliament (MP) from the area had not influenced any positive development in the area.

“Zengeza East Constituency is the one that Professor Arthur Mutambara represented during the time he was Deputy Prime Minister, but even though he was in an influential position he didn’t do anything for the community. I feel he let down the people given the capacity he had. I will make it my primary mission to develop the area and bring infrastructural transformation,” he said.

Chikuruwo said he was basing his campaign on the pillars of transparency, accountability, inclusivity, servitude and respect. He told VoteWatch263 that his message had gained him popularity.

He promised to create community development teams in each of the Wards that would identify the needs of the community. He said he would work with councillors from the respective Wards to find ways of assisting the community through projects.

He added that he would have a development-oriented approach which included improving service delivery. He also said he would ensure councillors were transparent and accountable to the people they served.

“My first promise to the community is to provide clean water to them. We have water challenges and the little water we get is not clean so the first thing I will do is to have at least two sola boreholes in each Ward,” he said.

On how he would influence issues around legislation, Chikuruwo said he would neutralise the ruling Zanu PF without explaining how he would neutralise the ruling party.

Chikuruwo also promised to lobby for a specific law that would stop local councils from levying rentals on houses that had ownership status, while withholding title deeds. He described the practice as daylight robbery.
