Mudariki Promises to Transform Belvedere

By Candice Chikende

Harare – The MDC Alliance candidate for Belvedere’s Ward 5, Midia Mudariki has promised to formulate an effective Ward development committee which would tackle the challenges facing residents in the area.

Mudariki, a former member of the Warren Park Development Committee, said the committee she intended to set up would engage the business community and donors as well as the local authority to mobilise resources to develop the Ward.

“I am a young woman who strongly believes in action without attracting public attention. These beliefs are rooted in my Christian background. In terms of service delivery, the electorate has nothing to worry about because I am capable. I have been in politics since 2005, and have held various influential positions at district and provincial level. That experience places me above all other contestants in the Ward,” Mudariki told VoteWatch263 as she embarked on a door-to-door campaign.

Vegetable vendors at the Belvedere shopping centre told VoteWatch263 that Mudariki had been visible in the area and seemed to understand their day-to-day challenges.

“She promised to build market stalls for us to conduct our business from. Right now, we have no proper place to sell our wares and we just trade from the open spaces. It becomes difficult when it’s raining or when it’s cold. I think Mudariki understands our issues better,” said one woman who declined to be identified.

Mudariki said her campaign differed from that of other candidates because it was based on the MDC Alliance election manifesto.

“In this policy document, service delivery is key. It will empower local authorities to collect vehicle license fees in their areas. This will go a long way in the rehabilitation of our feeder roads,” she said.

Added Mudariki, “Belvedere faces erratic collection of refuse and lack of street lights. The road network is in a pathetic state. Harare is twinned with Germany’s Munich council and we will exploit that relationship for the benefit of the Ward.”
